Milton Chang
Managing Director, Incubic
Milton Chang has built an exceptional angel investing track record, but more importantly has personally built two businesses as CEO, from zero to successful IPO. The ability to build true business from zero is distinct from operating experience, and is critical to the start-up process and success.
As one measure of his angel investment experience, Milton has seeded nearly 20 successful companies, which may be unparalleled. Having been on both sides of the entrepreneur/investor table for many years, his experiences very practically help entrepreneurs lower the risks of starting their businesses, and help Incubic with sound investment decisions.
A few of Milton's successes include Newport Corporation, which he took public as its CEO in 1971, Uniphase (later JDSU), where he provided seed capital and acted as a Director, and New Focus, which he founded in 1990 and took public in 2000.
He is active in the technical and business community and has received a number of prestigious awards from professional societies. He is a Fellow of OSA, and a former President of IEEE LEOS. He shares his experience freely and writes monthly business columns for Laser Focus World and Photonics Spectra.
Milton earned a B.S. in EE with highest honors from the University of Illinois, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in EE from the California Institute of Technology.
